Berlin Lake presented us with a beautiful day on Tuesday (August 3rd). Sunny with picture perfect white clouds, a slight breeze and 81 – 83 degree water is about as inviting as it gets. We launched from the Mill Creek ramp inside the campground. The water level looks normal to slightly low. Water clarity was as clear as I have seen Berlin, although still had some stain to it. There are TONS of bait fish in this lake! Big balls of them swimming EVERYWHERE. We fished deep shorelines where the creek channel swung in and caught small bass on crankbaits in 6 – 8 feet of water. Also caught them on deep edges of points with Carolina rig.
Not really confident enough to call it a pattern, but we will definitely fish deeper, off shore water when we go back next week. Also will adjust lures to match the bait fish better – probably 3/8 oz. spinner bait (white with silver willow leaf blades) and shad colored crankbait. Feel like the chartreuse I was using was too bright.
