Deer Creek Reservoir Bass Fishing Report

Deer Creek Reservoir Bass Fishing Report

Spent a hot, still wind day at Deer Creek Reservoir in Stark County a could days ago. Mile high blue skies, too. Deer Creek seemed a little more stained than usual, and there were less weeds also. The water temperature was 76 – 81 degrees.

We started down by the dam and worked our way up the far shoreline. Took a bit for us to find some bass, but it was clear where they were once we found them. We found the bass up super close to shore hiding behind a bunch of logs. Pinned a few against the log and they got away. They were all quality bass – 1.5 to 2 pounders. Caught on frogs. Tried crank baits, spinner baits, buzzbaits and swim jigs, too. Frogs were pretty much all they would bite. There seemed to be fish jumping all around us away from the shore, but we had no luck hooking any of them. Found ourselves saying “where are the weeds” again as we have on so many northeast Ohio lakes this summer.

Deer Creek Reservoir is a great shoreline and kayak fishing lake. They have a kayak launch at the ramp, there is a fishing pier and tons of shoreline to fish from. It is an electric motor only lake. If you have a gas motor, you can still use your boat. Just lift the gas motor out of the water and use your trolling motor.
