Headed out to West Reservoir on the “Main Chain” of Portage Lakes yesterday for a day of bass fishing. The gin clear water was 69 – 72 degrees and PACKED full of fish. I have never seen such BIG bluegill! And TONS of them. It looked more like an aquarium than a lake. There were plenty of nice 2 – 4 lb bass swimming around in 3 – 5 feet of water, too, and we found that speed was key to catching them. It didn’t matter what you threw, you HAD to burn it back! Caught them on a jointed swimbait, a shallow crankbait & topwater white frog. There are many quality weeds in 5 – 10 feet of water throughout West Reservoir.
