Spent a smoky day out on West Branch June 28th (we thought it was fog). The water is LOW – like 5 feet! I found out it was drawn down due to lack of rain and will remain at this level for the rest of the summer. It changes the dynamic of lake a bit, for sure, but the fish are still in there somewhere!
We had a great time catching! Found everything along outside weed edges and lily pad fields. Chartreuse seemed to be the color. They bit spinner baits, crank baits, buzz baits and swimbaits that had some chartreuse somewhere. I tried other colors with the same techniques and was not bit. They weren’t big ones, but there were plenty 10 -13 inchers out there looking for a bite. We stayed in the Jay Lake area all day. The water temperature is currently 72 – 74 degrees. If you are a bluegill or perch angler, there are plenty to be found! Had them nibbling all day, too.
