Mogadore Bass Fishing Report

Mogadore Bass Fishing Report

Spent the day out at Mogadore Reservoir yesterday. Our first trip out there for the year. First thing I noticed was that the shallow bays were weed choked. We stayed in 8 – 10 feet of water all day, and the weeds were topping out there too.

Nonetheless, Mogadore provided a fun day of fishing with quality bass. We fished from the Ticknor Rd. ramp, and went right on the main lake to the 3 islands. The water temperature was 70 – 71 degrees. It was gusty and windy, but I like fishing in the wind. We caught bigger fish on soft bodied swim jigs with chartreuse tails. We also caught fish on spinner baits – again with the chartreuse tail. The water was dark stained and had lots of oak moss and tree petals floating on top. Tried a frog in some of the big weed mats, but it was mostly spawning carp in there.

Saw quite a few shore anglers who were having good luck with crappie and blue gill. One guy had a bucket of about 30. The shallow fishing is left all to the shore anglers, as boats can’t cut that deep into the heavy weed mats.
