Lake Info & State Management

The Portage Lakes are in Summit County and consist of a chain of five lakes – Turkeyfoot Lake; West Reservoir; East Reservoir; North Reservoir. They total 1681 acres of fishing waters with 37.84 miles of shoreline. Long Lake and North Reservoir are not accessible from the main chain. Portage Lakes is within Ohio Division of Wildlife District 3.

The Portage Lakes chain is located a few miles south of the City of Akron. They are bordered by State Route 224 to the north – County Road 50 on the east – State Route 93 on the west – and County Road 224 on the south.

Approximately 5 miles south of Akron. Approximately 35 miles south of Cleveland. Approximately 100 miles northeast of Columbus.

The Portage Lakes have many species swimming in their waters. *Largemouth Bass *Walleye *Black and White Crappie *Muskellunge *Eastern Chain Pickerel *Bluegill *Redear Sunfish *Pumpkinseed *Rainbow Trout *Warmouth Bass *Yellow Perch *Channel Catfish *Bullhead *Sucker *Carp are all found here. Muskellunge are generally found in North Reservoir while the Pickerel are located in Long Lake. Saugeye are stocked in all lakes.

There are no horsepower restrictions on most of the Portage Lakes. Several boat launches are located around the lakes. An improved ramp is located in the state park with four lanes and ample parking.

The Division of Wildlife activities include monitoring fish populations ~ stocking ~ creel studies ~ water quality analysis.
