Atwood Lake Bass Fishing Report

Why have we never been to Atwood Lake before 2023? Its only 45 minutes from Akron and is a great fishing lake! Atwood Lake does have a 25 HP limit, so we were electric motor only.  The public boat launch is located right off Rt. 212, and is at the dam end of the lake. There are plenty of courtesy docks. There is also ample shoreline access to the lake there. We  fished from the launch about half way down the  lake on both sides.

Atwood Lake is a clear water lake with docks & natural shorelines, sparse weed patches and rock piles, and sharp declines into deeper water. We saw an activity zone with big balls of shad and minnows from 6 – 10 feet. Despite this, we had most of our fish come out from under docks in @4 or 5 feet of water. We caught smaller 10″ – 12″ fish, but saw several 2 – 4 lb. bass chasing. They would shadow the lure all the way to the boat. Just couldn’t get the bite. We left many quality fish out there for you to catch!

Moving baits near the top were key. Jerkbaits and hard swim baits got the bite. Tried spinner baits of different sizes and colors and a frog, but never got a bite. Same with dead-sticking worms – no deal.

Not sure what they were fishing for, but we saw a club tournament go off at 5 pm that had @10 -12 boats. Saw a few of the teams close to shore fishing the rip-rap near the dam.
