We took a beautiful drive through the country to spend the day bass fishing at Pleasant Hill Reservoir. With its high bluffs and abounding nature, it is one of the more scenic lakes we have been to. It had been several years since we have fished here, and I am not sure why!
There is a 2 two lane public improved ramp with ample parking. A fishing pier is nearby, and there are plenty of shoreline opportunities. Our visit was on a cloudy, 60 – 65 degree calm day. The water temperature was 70 – 71.5 and stained. The lake seemed a little low, but there was plenty of good fishing. Pleasant Hill is not a very weedy lake – there are tall, rocky bluffs on one side with deep shorelines reaching 8 – 20 feet.
There were bait fish EVERYWHERE! They were busting on top and it was pretty clear when they were being chased. Matched what the bait fish looked like with a chrome sided Flat Max and caught a couple fish in 9 feet of water. Caught the smallmouth you see in the picture on a jointed swim bait with a chartreuse belly and blue top. Had fish go after a smaller, chrome sided swim bait, also. Shiny, moving targets around fallen timber in 8 – 10 feet of water is where we found the fish.
