Visited West Branch for the first time this year on a beautiful, sunny, 70 – 75 degree day. The water level was full pool, maybe even a bit over, which made it nice, as last year, we only fished when it was 6 or more feet low. We were able to get back into areas we have not seen for a couple of years. It was amazing to see 75 – 80 degree water in May! Seems as though the spawn was done. Not even bluegill on beds anymore. Weeds were sparse, but the higher water gave us many laydowns to fish.

All of our fish were caught near points, however. Casting toward shore and sitting in @ 6 feet of water. Caught them on topwater frogs, wacky rigged worms, and spinner baits (of course). White was the popular color. West Branch  isn’t always our easiest lake to fish, but it gave us a look at some nice bass yesterday! This is always one of our favorite lakes to fish. With its undeveloped, natural shore lines, it is one of northeast Ohio’s remaining pristine gems without sea walls, docks and residences.
